On October 28, 2008 Beckie Hughes was crowned Miss Colorado USA! The 21-year-old entrepreneur from Grand Junction, was one of only two women from the western slope to ever win the title. "Persistence pays off", said Hughes. "Never give up on your dreams."
Beckie hopes to be an inspiration to other young women during her reign as Miss Colorado. She has been in a Disney film and is a former Junior Olympic volleyball player. She currently owns and operates three retail stores. The first of which she opened at the age of 18! Her message to young people everywhere, is to understand "What you say to yourself everyday and what you do everyday, will have an impact on the person you become."
Beckie participates in educating the community about ways to "Go Green" as she cares about the environment and is a supporter of "Soles for Souls", a non profit organization that gets shoes to those in need. "I've always wanted to find ways to give back because I have been so blessed. One of my stores is a shoe store and so this cause is "a perfect fit"! No pun intended" she says!
Beckie is ambitious, but can still find time to relax. Her favorite place to unwind is boating at Lake Powell, but she also enjoys wake boarding, playing volleyball, or just spending quality time with her family. Keeping her life balanced between work and play is what she believes keeps her enthusiastic about life!
